4. Ng Teng Fong General Hospital

Website: www.ntfgh.com.sg

Location: 1 Jurong East Street 21, Singapore 609606

Ng Teng Fong General Hospital or NTFGH is named after Singaporean entrepreneur, Ng Teng Fong. It consists of 700 beds, and it is the first and only hospital to have an ICU with a high dependency unit. This is to deliver critical care in one location by one team and one standard of care. They offer a wide variety of clinical services, such as dentistry, cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, haematology, general surgery, neurology, radiology, rehabilitation medicine, and many more. NTFGH is connected to the Jurong Community Hospital which features a mobility park that helps patients with their recovery.

The Green Mark Platinum NTFGH is part of Singapore’s first medical campus to combine continuing care from outpatient to post-acute care. Based on passive principles, the performance-based design supports resource efficiency, health, and well-being. Seventy percent of the facility is naturally ventilated, representing 82 percent of inpatient beds. Unlike its Singaporean peers, NTFGH provides every patient with an adjacent operable window, offering daylight and views.

Designed for environmental sustainability, NTFGH was designed to be as carbon-neutral as possible in the infrastructure, water and energy systems, and landscape features. They received the Green Mark Platinum Award by the Building Construction Authority of Singapore in 2013 for the following innovative features. The hospital’s internal hot water supply and energy for landscape lighting is provided by solar energy. The building uses 38 percent less energy than a typical Singaporean hospital and 69 percent less than a typical US hospital. It is estimated that the energy saved could power nearly 4,000 five-room HDB flats for a year, while the water saved could fill about 27 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
